The cookie monster is so passe. It’s all about the gelato monster these days, and I’m willing to accept the position!
I headed into Hildesheim this afternoon to get my work details (I’ll be getting up at 4 AM to get to the hospital for those 6AM early shifts and will be working until 10PM for those late shifts – as well as through the night, for those graveyard shifts! It’s forty hours per week, but they’re forty weird ones!)
But, of course, I had to stop by the Eiscafe Venezia before I could get myself over to the hospital.
It was so hot that all the gelato looked pretty close to melting! I had a hard time choosing between 3 flavors (hazelnut, cookies, and strawberry), but finally I chose…all three!
Yum. And, just because it’s so delicious, here’s another pic:
I managed to stay clean during consumption of the frozen goodness, however, and arrived at the hospital with my white blouse (I know, I was blatantly tempting fate) as clean as ever. Miracle!
My first day of work is Monday. I’m a little bit nervous, I have to admit…*Secret* I’m really, really bad with vomit. Like deathly afraid of it. And yet I’m working in the cancer section – oh boy. I can see this going badly (or well? Are unpaid 40-hours-per-week-with-no-vacation-and-only-one-sick-day-all-fall interns maybe excused from vomit clean up? I know we have to deal with fecal incidents, but as long as there’s no vomit…)
Anyway, onto something less frightening:
Before I left, I snacked on some juicy, juicy melon with quark.
Have I mentioned that I looooove quark?
What’s your biggest fear?
Do you prefer gelato, ice cream, frozen yogurt, or shaved ice?
What ice cream flavor do you either (a) wish existed, or (b) really want to try?

Oh, gelato — be still my beating heart!
I’ve always wanted to try quark — does it taste like cottage cheese or yogurt?
Ooooh, btw, when are you coming to LA? We need to meet up!
It’s kind of like greek yogurt, but a little more sour and thicker – I definitely would not compare it to cottage cheese in any way, though. I’ve seen it in a specialty store in the US once, but it was ridiculously expensive – something like $15 for a little two-serving tub?!
Hm, not sure when I’m coming to LA now, since I chose Germany for fall…earliest this January for J-term (3 weeks reserved for internships, etc.) and latest for med school in 2.5 years (I hope). Whenever I do, though, we should definitely meet up! I have yet to do a blogger meet-up, actually, as I’m pretty new on the blogger scene.
That gelato looks so yummy!!! &You’ll be fine. Vomit is really nasty….but you can do it.
Thanks, I hope so!
Wow, that gelato look amazing! Thanks for making me drool
. Good luck with your internship. The early shifts/late shifts can be tiresome, but it looks like you’ll make the most of it based on your experience and enthusiasim.
I’m going to Google quark now, it looks quite intriguing…
Thanks for drooling! Hmm…that sounds odd.
Quark is the *bomb.* I heard there are recipes floating about out there for homemade quark? Especially among German expats?
Again with the Quark! I just like the NAME, and saying it! Sounds silly! && P.S.– I saw something about you coming to L.A. possibly– I just moved here to Hollywood from Texas! If you come around these parts we need to eat gelato together. That’s a must!
My favorite gelatos/ice creams that I’m aware of are coffee flavored ice creams, also a good caramel or butterscotch, vanilla, strawberry, a true homemade peach ice cream with ripe, rich fruits, Vanilla bean– I think I just like truly authentic and GOOD quality ice creams and desserts… and food… lol, period!
Your waffle ice cream cone looked to die for, by the way
I’ve been craving ice cream like that for the past week! On my honeymoon with my husband we were in Michigan in this teeny town called Lake City, and there’s an ice cream parlour there and we ate ice cream like that; ohhh it was phenomenal. So I have very sentimental, affectionate feelings towards frozen dairy products:) Thanks for posting!
Haha, saying Quark makes you sound like a duck!
And yes, when I finally come to LA (not quite sure when yet) we will have to have a gelato meet-up!
How do you like Hollywood?
Yay for frozen dairy and check back for my German froyo post later today (this should be interesting…)!
