In addition to an overwhelming reader bias, one reader said something that really made my decision for me: ‘If I were you, I would consider which one fulfills the main reason of my taking this internship in the first place.’
Frankly, it’s not to research. It’s not hang out on the beach. It’s not to wear shorts in November. It’s not to get to spend time on USC’s AWESOME campusAnd no, it’s not even to try more froyo and veg cafes than you’d think exist.
It’s to make sure that my intended career path, neurosurgery, is right for me. So what better to suss out if a career in medicine is right than an actual four month internship in a hospital? ‘Nuff said.
Germany it is!
So I’m going to have to change my ‘About Me.’ Instead of my LA eats, this will be my European eats (because you can bet your bottom dollar that my travel-greedy self won’t stick to just Germany – as soon as those long weekends roll around, I’ll be all over – France, Italy, Spain, England…you name it!). I hope you’re still interested
I’ll also be covering cultural things (beyond, but probably including, Oktoberfest and the Weihnachtsmaerkte) and posting tons of pics of villages, towns, cities, etc.
(ABOVE: Me, two years ago, gardening)
And I’ll review my airport/airplane experience, because who doesn’t love a plane with good food & film to carry you over the Atlantic? It looks like I’ll be flying Lufthansa, KLM, or BMI. Because they’re just awesome.
(ABOVE: Blurry pic of me sleeping on a plane…zzzzzzz…and sideways, because we were ascending–okay, maybe not that steeply
)
I hope you’ll stick around and, if you have any suggestions of things you want me to try/review or of places you want me to visit and blog about (I just ask that they be somewhere in western Europe!) I’m very open to suggestion.
Thanks, guys!

Congratulations!!! So excited to read your blog adventures in Germany (and I fly Lufthansa A LOT too- haha I’m some special status on their Miles & More even!) When do you leave and where in Germany will you be?
Jealous! Special status is definitely a viable goal, especially with Lufthansa
I’ll fly from Bar Harbor to Boston on August 13, then from Boston to Hanover on August 14! I’ll spend one night in Boston (to get my froyo and veg cafe fix, of course) and everything will be photographed and blogged.
As the internship won’t start until the end of August, leaving me some time to just flit around northwestern Germany for a bit, I’m thinking of flying to London first and hanging out there for four days.
I’ve been there so often…but, then again, you can never get too much of London!
For the most part, though, I’ll be in Hildesheim (it’s a city about half an hour from Hannover). I’ll be living in a cute little village, just fifteen minutes from Hannover, so I’m really excited to get to experience village life
That’s so awesome/exciting!!!!!!
)
I’ve never been to Germany so this will be VERY informative for me!
Make sure to have a GREAT time (though that won’t be too hard
Thanks!
It’s a pity that we won’t be able to meet, but I’m sure I’ll come up to USC at some point (with a campus like that and a city like that, I’m sure I won’t be able to stay away!). I’m glad you’ll be following the blog, though
I’ll make sure to have lots of fun and post tons of pics and cultural tidbits – keep it educational (if ‘the best vegetarian bratwurst in berlin’ counts…haha)
Honoured !
Yay how exciting!! Can’t wait to hear all about Germany! Stay safe!
Thanks! It’s going to be an exciting fall for both of us
